We are proud to offer our services in the setting that benefits each child the most.

These settings include but are not limited to our clinic, the child's home, daycare or school.

My philosophy on treating pediatric developmental delays is simple:

Each child is unique; therefore, the pediatric therapy must be customized for each child for maximum results.

The family must be involved and be willing to carryover the techniques learned in the therapy sessions into the child's daily routine.

A multi-disciplinary collaborative approach to pediatric therapy is the best way to overcome all aspects of a child's developmental issues.

In the CECO program children with motor disabilities repeat tasks and movements on a daily basis, allowing their brains to find alternative paths to create desired movements like sitting, standing, walking and self-feeding.

Destiny Foundation of Central Florida, Inc. was founded in September 2001, by Pastor Scott George with a new and innovative food assistance program to financially assist the "working poor" in Central Florida. What is now the Greater Orlando Food Outreach began to offer a long-term food subsidy program directly to families in the community just days before the tragedy of September 11th. Thousands of families have joined the Greater Orlando Food Outreach, a program that provides them with access to high quality foods for a small contribution per item.

In 2006, as part of our Healthy Families Initiative, staple foods such as eggs, bread, produce, and other nutritional items became available at no cost to all members. This "hand up," as opposed to a "handout," restores dignity to families by actively involving them in their road to self-sufficiency.

We affirm that life and love are inextricable, finding their natural expression in the institutions of marriage and family, the foundation of civilization.  Government has a duty to promote and protect these essential cultural ingredients in law and public policy. Finally, FFPC believes that humility and integrity are the cornerstones of Christian character, influencing all we do.

It can be used over the years as you encounter a wide variety of grief experiences or as you assist friends in moving beyond grief to good grief.

It may be hard for you to feel optimistic about the future right now. If you’ve lost a spouse, child, family member or friend, you’ve probably found there are not many people who understand the deep hurt you feel. This can be a confusing time when you feel isolated and have many questions about things you’ve never faced before.

GriefShare is a friendly, caring group of people who will walk alongside you through one of life’s most difficult experiences. You don’t have to go through the grieving process alone. GriefShare seminars and support groups are led by people who understand what you are going through and want to help. You’ll gain access to valuable GriefShare resources to help you recover from your loss and look forward to rebuilding your life.

There are thousands of GriefShare grief recovery support groups meeting throughout the US, Canada and in over 10 other countries.

GriefShare groups meet weekly to help you face challenges and move toward rebuilding your life. Each GriefShare session has three distinct elements:

  • Video Seminar with Experts
  • Support Group Discussion with Focus
  • Workbook-based Personal Study and Reflection

GriefShare is for people grieving the death of a loved one. Many other life situations bring deep grief, such as separation and divorce, a loved one who is dying, estrangement, loss of a loved one to a cult, loss of custody of a child through divorce and more. If you are struggling with a loss not due to a death, GriefShare is not designed to meet your grief needs for healing. We encourage you to ask your pastor or a church leader for guidance in finding a support group or counselor.

Holding on to Hope

by Nancy Guthrie, Tyndale House Publishers, Inc.

From the Publisher: Shunning platitudes and easy answers, Nancy Guthrie deals head-on with the issues experienced by those who are going through suffering and loss. Through lessons drawn from the biblical story of Job and the experience of losing her infant daughter, Hope, Nancy gently challenges readers to embrace suffering as a means of discovering a more meaningful relationship with God. Holding On to Hope offers an uplifting perspective, not only for those experiencing monumental loss but also for anyone going through difficulty and failure. Ms. Guthrie's story of losing her daughter is woven beautifully throughout, adding a richness and credibility lacking in many books on suffering. After finishing the manuscript, the author added an epilogue that deals with an additional devastating loss--the death of her infant son Gabriel who died of the same disease that took her daughter Hope.

MAKE A DIFFERENCE FISHING TOURNAMENT

The Make A Difference Fishing Tournament for Special Kids was developed, in 1996, by a group of Clearwater businessmen and friends. After contacting the City of Clearwater with plans to provide a day of fishing for handicapped children, the City generously opened Pier 60 for the "kickoff" fishing turnament. With donations of money, time, equipment, and food, Make A Difference hosted its first group of 58 "special anglers". Since that initial tournament, Make A Difference Fishing Tournament for Special Kids has grown to accommodate approximately 500 handicapped and special needs participants annualy.

Make A Difference has become much more than just a local fishing tournament. As a result of the Make A Difference expansion program, communities such as the City of Largo and the City of Belle Glade as well as the IGFA and the Port Manatee Fish Hatchery will host "special angler" events in 2003

Medicaid or Medical Assistance is administered by the State of Florida Agency for Health Care Administration and is financed by federal, state and county funds. It provides services for persons in financial need who are unable to pay for needed medical and health care services. A family may be eligible for Medicaid if it earns a minimal monthly income or none at all, and owns little or no property. Anyone who receives public assistance, welfare, or SSI is eligible.

Once a person has a Medicaid card, he will be required to choose a service delivery system called Medipass or one of the Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) in their area. If a parent chooses an HMO, the child cannot receive services through the Department of Health’s Children’s Medical Services (CMS). Either program will allow your child to receive hospital care, nursing home care, laboratory services, dental care, therapies and many other services.

RFB&D now has a volunteer force of more than 5,200 volunteers who added 4,011 titles to our library in the year 2002. Recovering From the Losses of Life

by H. Norman Wright, Spire

Our lives are marked by a variety of losses. Some are life-changing, such as leaving home, the death of a loved one, or divorce. Others are subtle, such as changing jobs, moving, or a broken friendship. But no matter what kind of loss readers encounter, Wright can help them find hope. Writing from his experience, Wright covers such issues as the meaning of grief, blaming God, and learning to express and share grief. Study questions are included.

Respitality

Local hotels offer hospitality and respite

Contact the United Cerebral Palsy Association and ask for the Respitality Program Coordinator at (858) 571-7803, Fax (858) 571-0919, email ucpsd@pacbell.net

The "hospitality" of local hotels is combined with "respite" care to create "mini-vacations" for parents who have children with special needs. Parents who participate in Respitality receive a gift-certificate for an overnight stay at a local hotel, along with child care funding from UCP, so that they can enjoy a short refreshing break from their demanding daily care routines.

Families who have a member with a disability face some extra challenges on a daily basis. The whole family benefits when the parents or guardians are able to have a short, refreshing time away.

Your name will be placed on a list for Respitality and you will be contacted as space permits.

Helping children overcome disabilities and developmental delays is a community effort, one that requires commitment, generosity, innovation, and leadership.

For nearly 50 years, United Cerebral Palsy of Central Florida, a non-profit 501 (c) (3) agency, has been making life better for those who need our help the most--children working to overcome disabilities resulting from a variety of conditions, including cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, spina bifida, autism, and others. Today, more than 1,600 children and their families receive services in our six child development centers, in their homes and in the community. Since 2001, our centers have been designated as preschool charter schools in Orange, Seminole, and Osceola counties, providing tuition-free education for eligible children from birth to age 5. We also provide outpatient pediatric physical, speech, and occupational therapy, as well as family support for children up to age 21 at six locations.

Welcome To Holland

by Emily Perl Kingsley

I am often asked to describe the experience of raising a child with a disability - to try to help people who have not shared that unique experience to understand it, to imagine how it would feel. It's like this......

When you're going to have a baby, it's like planning a fabulous vacation trip - to Italy. You buy a bunch of guide books and make your wonderful plans. The Coliseum. The Michelangelo David. The gondolas in Venice. You may learn some handy phrases in Italian. It's all very exciting.

After months of eager anticipation, the day finally arrives. You pack your bags and off you go. Several hours later, the plane lands. The stewardess comes in and says, "Welcome to Holland." "Holland?!?" you say. "What do you mean Holland?? I signed up for Italy! I'm supposed to be in Italy. All my life I've dreamed of going to Italy."

But there's been a change in the flight plan. They've landed in Holland and there you must stay. The important thing is that they haven't taken you to a horrible, disgusting, filthy place, full of pestilence, famine and disease. It's just a different place.

So you must go out and buy new guide books. And you must learn a whole new language. And you will meet a whole new group of people you would never have met. It's just a different place. It's slower-paced than Italy, less flashy than Italy. But after you've been there for a while and you catch your breath, you look around.... and you begin to notice that Holland has windmills....and Holland has tulips. Holland even has Rembrandts.

But everyone you know is busy coming and going from Italy... and they're all bragging about what a wonderful time they had there. And for the rest of your life, you will say "Yes, that's where I was supposed to go. That's what I had planned." And the pain of that will never, ever, ever, ever go away... because the loss of that dream is a very very significant loss.

But... if you spend your life mourning the fact that you didn't get to Italy, you may never be free to enjoy the very special, the very lovely things ... about Holland.

Young people with disabilities – like their able-bodied peers – have hopes and dreams, needs, and fears. Capernaum provides a place where they can share their struggles and be encouraged to be all that God designed them to be.
